For decades, politicians have supported trade agreements which have cost us millions of decent paying jobs as corporate America shuts down plants here and moves to low-wage countries. He is serving his second term in the U.S. Senate after winning re-election in 2012 with 71 percent of the vote. Sanders previously served as mayor of Vermont’s largest city for eight years before defeating an incumbent Republican to be the sole congressperson for the state in the U.S. House of Representatives. He lives in Burlington, Vermont with his wife Jane and has four children and seven grandchildren. Bernard “Bernie” Sanders was born in Brooklyn, New York, to immigrant parents and grew up in a small, rent-controlled apartment. His father came to the United States from Poland at the age of 17 without much money or a formal education. While attending the University of Chicago, a 20-year-old Sanders led students in a multi-week sit-in to oppose segregation in off-campus housing owned by the university as a Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) officer. In August of 1963, Sanders took an overnight bus as an organizer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee to hear Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic “I Have a Dream” speech firsthand at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. After graduation, Bernie moved to Vermont where he worked as a carpenter and documentary filmmaker. In 1981, he was elected as mayor of Burlington as an Independent by a mere 10 votes, shocking the city’s political establishment by defeating a six-term, local machine mayor. In 1983, Bernie was re-elected by a 21 point margin with a record amount of voter turnout. Under his administration, the city made major strides in affordable housing, progressive taxation, environmental protection, child care, women’s rights, youth programs and the arts. In 1990, Sanders was elected to the House of Representatives as the first Independent in 40 years and joined the Democratic caucus. He was re-elected for eight terms, during which he voted against the deregulation of Wall Street, the Patriot Act, and the invasion of Iraq. In 2006, Sanders defeated the richest man in Vermont to win a seat in the U.S. Senate as an Independent. Known as a “practical and successful legislator,” Sanders served as chairman of the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs where he authored and passed the most significant veteran health care reform bill in recent history. While in the Senate, Sanders has fought tirelessly for working class Americans against the influence of big money in politics. In 2010, he gave an eight-and-a-half hour filibuster-like speech on the Senate floor in opposition to extending Bush-era tax breaks for the wealthy. In 2015, the Democratic leadership tapped Bernie to serve as the caucus’ ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee. Known for his consistency on the issues, Senator Sanders has supported the working class, women, communities of color, and the LGBT community throughout his career. He is an advocate for the environment, unions, and immigrants. He voted against Keystone XL, opposes the Trans-Pacific Partnership deal, wants to expand the Voting Rights Act, and pass the Equal Rights Amendment. The Transatlantic Trade Investment Partnership is a trade deal between the EU and the US - and is anything but harmless. The deal boosts corporate power and endangers people and the planet. This video, made by international campaigning organisation Attac, sets out the problems with the deal in a really clear, informative way. April 2, 2017 "The Climate Cost of Free Trade", A Trade Justice Alliance Webinar Featuring 1:00 Ben Lilliston, Director of Corporate Strategies and Climate Change, Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy 16:40 Anthony Torres, Associate Campaign Representative, Sierra Club's Responsible Trade Program 26:45 Q&A with Ben and Anthony 40:30 Nancy Price, Co-Chair, The Alliance for Democracy 1:08:45 Q&A with Nancy 1:20:45 Adam Weissman, Director, Global Justice for Animals and the Environment The Trump Administration has promised to re-negotiate existing trade deals, like the North American Free Trade Agreement, change the way the U.S. interacts with the World Trade Organization, and start to negotiate bi-lateral (one-on-one) trade deals with other countries. This new era of trade negotiations will have direct impacts on greenhouse gas emissions and how we respond to climate change. Ben Lilliston will look at how the Trump Administration views trade and climate change, and outline key upcoming moments for advocacy. Anthony Torres will discuss the Sierra Club's new climate-friendly model of trade. This is just one plank of a broader trade platform that supporters workers, healthy communities, and our planet. Rather than Mexico vs the US, the corporate trade agenda and NAFTA have been about corporations vs the rest of us. Our movement defeated the TPP, now we have to build a progressive vision that rejects both the failed status quo and Trump's false solutions. As NAFTA renegotiation approaches, we must ensure that Trump's nationalist approach doesn't implement an even worse corporate power grab; rather, we will fight for a progressive vision for trade that uplifts people and the planet. Nancy Price will explain the 2010 Global Compact and corporate capture of the UN and the implication for realization of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. In brief, this corporate influence will lead to greater privatization and impact climate. She will present this as a process that parallels the free trade regime. She will include briefly Trump's creation of the new White House Office of Innovation Adam Weissman will address animal agribusiness' plans to use trade policy for market expansion in the Trump era and why this threatens global climate. https://www.facebook.com/Iowa99Media Iowa99Media@gmail.com

JBS CEO Art Thompson's weekly news video update for June 8 - 14, 2015. In this week's Analysis Behind the News video, JBS CEO Art Thompson discusses how you can tell whether American jobs are being lost due to so-called free trade agreements; how these “free trade” agreements are controlling more and more of our banking system; how all these foreign entanglements are creating an integration of economies around the world to be ruled at the top by the international commissions that are being created by the various trade pacts, such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), that are being negotiated right now; how Senator Sessions of Alabama sent a letter to President Obama that raises an excellent question about the role of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Commission and whether it would supersede our Constitution; and how we should ask the question of who is behind the expansion of ISIS.

Inka Stafrace Facilitator Tom Lines explanation of FTAs in general 00:00 to 11.15 Linda Kaucher on US-EU FTA specifically 11:15 to 22:50 Q & A 22:50 to end Hear how the US/EU free trade agreement is set to drag down EU regulatory standards as they are 'harmonised' with those of the US, affecting health, labour and much more, and to give corporations a free hand to sue governments for the loss of all future profits resulting from any people-friendly, corporate-limiting legislation - leading to either big bucks payouts or the curtailment of useful legislation. This agreement has not yet been finalized. European countries are being represented by the European Trade Commission, a body that is heavily influenced by the interests of corporations (Recommended documentary - The Brussels Business -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Kngj1K2a_c). Occupy organised a talk with experts to learn more about FTAs and to figure out how to combat such high end legislation.
